Expert Answers about Chevrolet Adjustable Trailer Coupler

  • What Is Needed For More Clearance Between The Bed Rails And Gooseneck Trailer On A Ford F-150 Truck
  • A good rule to follow is to allow 6 inches or more of clearance between the sides of the bed and the bottom of the gooseneck trailer to allow for dips and bumps in the road. You will want to check your gooseneck coupler to see if it has an adjustable tube with set screws that will allow you to adjust the height of the coupler for extra clearance when attached to your vehicle. If it does then you can loosen the set screws and adjust the length of the tube to get more clearance. If the...

  • Coupler Recommendation for Trailer with 4 Inch Trailer Tongue To Fit 2 Inch Hitch Ball
  • I have a solution for you, but we don't have a traditional-style coupler that will fit over your 4 inch trailer tongue. The straight tongue trailer couplers we offer fit up to 3 inch trailer tongues. I recommend using an adjustable channel coupler that will weld to the front of your trailer tongue. For a coupler that fits a 2 inch hitch ball, a great option is the Pro Series Adjustable Channel Coupler with Low Latch # PSA200S0303. This coupler offers an 8,000 pound weight capacity. The...

  • Adjustable Height Gooseneck Coupler Recommendation for an Older Ponderosa Horse Trailer
  • Actually you would want to go with a Pro Series Gooseneck Coupler # PS0287820300 instead. This is an adjustable gooseneck coupler that will give you 8 inches of adjustability. This coupler has the same diameter tube as what you have. You would just need to have the old one removed and this one welded in it's place. If in the shortest position of this coupler it would still be too tall in the front you could remove a portion off the top of the coupler so that it would be the correct height....

  • Adjustable Bracket And Coupler Recommendation For 7000 Lb Trailer
  • We do carry some replacement parts for couplers, however we do not carry replacement parts that would work for the coupler you have provided pictures of. We do have some options for you to consider. For an adjustable channel coupler, I recommend the Bulldog Cast Head Coupler, part # BDA256C0317. This coupler has fits a 2-5/16 inch ball. The channel I would recommend for this coupler is the Bulldog 5-Position Adjustable Channel Bracket for Cast Head Couplers, part # BDAC5000300. This channel...

  • How to Lock Demco 21K Adjustable Channel Trailer Coupler
  • The Demco Adjustable Channel Trailer Couplers like the 21K # DM14040-81 use 5/8" diameter bolts for attachment to the adjustable channel, so you could potentially replace them with 5/8" locking pins like etrailer.com # e98881. Please keep in mind though that Demco does state that the standard Grade 5 mounting bolts # PS024202 do need to be used to achieve/maintain the coupler's 21,000 pound weight capacity. With this in mind I don't recommend doing this, as this could potentially lower...

  • Recommended Lock for the Demco Trailer Coupler with 5-Position Adjustable Channel
  • There's a pin hole on the side of the Demco Trailer Coupler w/ 5-Position Adjustable Channel part # DM6125-81 which will allow you to use a pin lock for which I recommend the etrailer Surge Brake Coupler Lock part # e98888. There would be no way to lock the coupler to the channel unfortunately but unless they had another to replace it they could not steal the trailer with the above lock in place.

  • Recommended A-Frame Coupler To Replace A Ram A-Frame Coupler With A Sloppy Fit
  • The A-Frame Trailer Coupler # CA-5210-B will have the exact same yoke latch as your current Ram coupler, so it will not be adjustable, unfortunately. With that said, if you were over doing the weight capacity and can swing the Dutton Lainson A-Frame Trailer Coupler # DL14008 with 5,000 pounds of capacity, it will have the adjustability you are looking for. If you do need more capacity than that though, your best option will be the Demco A-Frame Trailer Coupler # DM14791-97. This is actually...

  • Is There An Adjustable Trailer Coupler for 4" Wide Channel on Trailer
  • I do have an option for you but we don't have any trailer couplers for an adjustable channel 4" wide as this is not a very standard size. The best option for parts availability would be to switch over to a 3" channel like the Buyers Products Coupler w/ 5-Position Adjustable Channel part # 3370091555 which comes with the coupler. It's rated at 15,000 lbs but if you need one with more just let me know or you can look through our selection below. In order to swap from 4" to 3" you will need...

  • Can etrailer.com A-Frame Trailer Coupler Be Adjusted
  • The etrailer.com A-Frame Trailer Coupler # CA-5280-RB that you referenced does have a nice and convenient squeeze latch that allows for quick and safe coupling, but there aren't any adjustment points on the underside to tighten up a connection. Those bolts that you mentioned are just to hold the jaw in place. We do not have a standard A-frame coupler that has the ability to adjust like this. If you are experiencing a lot of movement with your current setup there might be some rust or...

  • Recommended Coupler for Channel Mount for 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball
  • The specific ball size trailer couplers like the etrailer # CTA-400, the Pro Series # PSA256S0303 has a latch that is not adjustable and specific to the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. It sounds like you are looking for the multi-ball adjustable coupler, and there is not that style of latch available in the channel mounted options we carry.

  • Gooseneck Trailer Couplers with Both the Outer and Inner Tubes
  • It sounds like you want a gooseneck coupler that includes both the outer and inner tubes. The outer tube is permanently welded to the trailer and the inner tube is the adjustable part with the coupler. We have several options, see link below. The most popular is Bulldog Gooseneck Coupler - Adjustable - Round - 2-5/16" Ball - 30,000 lbs Item # BD0289500300. We also have some square tube options such as # BD1289140300.

  • Can a Hole be Drilled in Gooseneck Trailer Outer Tube to Install Adjustable Coupler
  • You would need to contact the trailer manufacturer to see if you can safely use the trailer after drilling a hole for an adjustable coupler such as # BD0287610300. the outer tube would have to have one to use this type of coupler so provided there was a hole and the trailer manufacturer was fine with adding one then you could use it. The outer diameter of the coupler tube is 4 inches so the inner diameter of the outer tube needs to be slightly larger for it to fit. Another option, which...

  • Channel Mount Trailer Coupler for 3 Inch Wide Channel
  • There is pretty much a standard for channel mount couplers such as # DM12113-95. The channel width is usually 3 inches and the couplers are usually around 2-7/8 inches wide to fit in the 3 inch wide channel. Once torqued down there is no side to side movement because the coupler essentially is clamped in. Holes are usually spaced 2 inches apart on center which is the vertical hole spacing in a channel this coupler would work with. But it never hurts to measure just to be sure. For mounting...

  • Coupler Lock Recommendation for Demco Adjustable Coupler part # DM6125
  • The Demco Adjustable Coupler part # DM6125 that you mentioned does not have a lip around the base of it so a coupler lock like the Atwood part # AT89006 that you mentioned is not going to work. For this type of coupler you'd need a lock like the Fastway Trailer Coupler Lock part # FA86-0015-316. I attached a picture that shows this lock installed on a similar coupler that does not have a lip around the base of it as well.

  • Is Adjusting Coupler Height Better Than Going with Lower Drop Ball Mount
  • As long as the trailer ends up level that's all that really matters. I'd go the route that's the easiest for you to accomplish that. A ball mount with a lot of drop can be more expensive so maybe adjust the trailer coupler height so that you can find a ball mount that works and doesn't cost quite as much. I attached a help article on picking out the correct rise/drop ball mount for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended Coupler Lock for Bulldog Cast Head Coupler
  • Thanks for the photo of your coupler! It looks like it is a Bulldog Cast Head Coupler with Wedge Latch, 2-5/16 inch Ball # BDA256C0317. I spoke with my contact at Bulldog about a coupler lock for your trailer. He said that because of the shape of the # BDA256C0317 coupler, a lock that secures inside the coupler where the ball fits is not ideal. He suggested using a traditional coupler lock that secures the coupler at the latch. I really like the Bulldog Adjustable Coupler Lock # BD580410....

  • Recommended Lock for Demco Easy Latch and a Demco Adjustable Channel Coupler
  • The etrailer Surge Brake Coupler Lock part # e98888 can be used to lock both a Demco Easy Latch and a Demco Adjustable Channel coupler. If you order them both at the same time and select the "keyed alike" option, they both come with the same lock/key. I like the pin style locks personally as you can not only use them when the trailer is not in use but also while the trailer is in use as an extra measure of security while towing.
